Massage is about therapy. I’ve spent my career working as a massage therapist in the health spa industry. If there is an entire group of people who are almost all inside the moneyless bubble, it’s massage therapists. We want to help people and heal them. We want to ease their aching muscles and soothe their unquiet souls. We want meaningful interactions with our clients. We do not, for the most part, want to focus on the monetary aspects of our jobs. Just my two cents.

As a new therapist I was unprepared for the difficulty of building a massage business from scratch. My mother sent me this book with a bunch of others to help me get going. This one left me frustrated. I couldn’t shake the feeling that the author was more interested in promoting her own celebrity status which turned me off from the start since I’m not interested in that for myself. The writing style is conversational and easy to read but also unfocused and somewhat amateurish. I think it’s the author’s first book. I live in a rural area where $100 an hour massage is laughed at. Insurance billing isn’t an option for me either. If this is the case for you too then skip this one.

I live in a somewhat medium-small town area with mainly common folk and in a state that does not allow MTs to bill insurance directly, even with a doctor’s referral so, unfortunately I am not able to use the big money making ideas in her book. However, if you live in or near a major city or in a state that allows MTs to bill insurance then this would be extremely helpful to you. Although, I was not able to use some of Holub’s major ideas, I found the book to be motivating and there are some other bits that I did find useful.

Even after being in private practice as a licensed massage therapist for over 22 years, I’m grateful to learn new ideas and solutions to this wonderful business. I have created a $100,000-plus practice several times, and it can easily be done – especially with help from an author who has done it herself.
I’m very grateful that a peer has written this excellent book.
It might be a lot for a new therapist to digest, yet there is so much material here to help with creating your dream practice that I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book.
I dare anyone to open any page and NOT get inspired or a new idea to jump start marketing. Just the $33K Time Slot part of the book was worth the time and cover price alone!

This is an easy read (plowed thru in 24 hours), is well-written, and has information on a lot of relevant subjects. A great book if you want to find out what it’s like to work in a hotel, spa, or for celebrities without actually doing it first. Also gives good info on insurance billing. Best info, I think, is the section that describes what your clients are expecting from you and your business materials and practices.
Problem is that she mentions links for products throughout the book and says they’ll be listed on her website, [. . . ], but they’re not. No links, just further selling of her book. . . rather disappointing, considering I was really excited about this book. She even repeats the adage of under-promising and over-delivering, but doesn’t follow it herself, stripping some of her own authority. . .
