Steve Weber has again taken a complicated subject and gone step-by-step so that the reader can benefit from clearly explained information. Beginners will appreciate the screen shots of how to do things on Twitter while advanced Twitter users will appreciate reminders of Twitter techniques as well as third-party applications that can be quite useful.
If you do any kind of Internet marketing, I truly believe that you should be on Twitter. And if you need help starting on Twitter or improving your Twitter techniques, get this book now!

This book is easy to read and filled with a wealth of information on how to make the most of Twitter. It’s an inside, barebones book on what Twitter is and does. Mr Weber takes you step by step from setting up a free Twitter account to attracting followers and staying connected. He also goes into detail with lots of extra stuff from using free apps, software to integrating with other sources. As a writer, I think that I benefitted most by using Twitter to market and advertise my product while at the same time making me aware of potential pitfalls. My favorite chapters were about custom tweaking your backgrounds and how to do a more extensive search to find your target audience using the search buttons and hot topic subjects. This book is a must if you are seeking to expand your business and create a wider audience online.

Like most authors, I depend on social networking for much of my marketing efforts. So I was excited about having a resource to enhance the effectiveness of my Twitter activity. I was no stranger to the effectiveness of Weber’s advice: Plug Your Book! is a major part of my 27 page Excel spreadsheet book marketing plan.
Short version of this review – You will benefit from new ideas – even if you are an intermediate level user – and it will forward your goals.
Long version of this review – Here are some of the ways I’ve leveraged this book:
– Developed my Twitter goals, strategy, and identity, including what I would post about what days and why. Thought I knew, this took it up a whole ‘nother level.
– Took a step back and reviewed my tweets from the last few weeks to see if I was developing a consistent portrait of what I care about and where I can contribute. Especially important because while they are clearly related to me, my interests might not seem coherent to everyone. I have to create that connection through my communication, what I link to, what I tweet, what I re-tweet. . .
It’s easy to just throw out whatever on Twitter and that is not my goal. It has to all help people understand what I’m about.
– Used the search link more strategically to form relationships with those who are interested in dating, love, relationships (subject of my book) or in transforming their lives (subject of my blog).
Results: mutual guest blogging, tweets about each others’ efforts, links to each others’ books. Note: obviously I knew the search link existed, I just hadn’t thought through the best way to use it for my goals.
– Re-designed my Twitter profile page so my book is now featured, using Weber’s advice on free design resources. This also resulted in more links to my work on Google.
– Weighed in on the popular discussions of the day that interest me because, well, I am interested but also because it gives me a chance to expand my brand.
– Finally understood why people use the “at” and pound (hashtags)signs and now am using them to forward my goals.
– Deepened relationships formed on LinkedIn by learning how to use tweets to respond both personally and globally.
– Submitted my name to Twitter directories per Weber’s suggestion. Why not? (BTW, landed under my name on Google within an hour!)
– Deepened relationships by responding to others’ tweets, including thank you’s for pictures, articles, I enjoyed or learned from. I wanted to be a “giver”, not a “taker”, and Weber had some great ideas for creating channels for doing that, esp. in explaining the differences between conversing and broadcasting and when each is appropriate.
– I haven’t yet taken advantage of the “Automate Twitter” section, but plan to do so to get more exposure for my blog.
– I used tiny url and Tweetdeck already, but Weber does a great job of explaining why to use and comparing options on these applications. And these are resources everyone needs to exploit.

Steve Weber provides an excellent introduction to the world of Twitter. Starting with defining your Twitter goals, setting up your account, deciding who to follow, and how to build a following, this book will get you going quickly. Although I am already on Twitter (@edpriority) and have started to build a following using the tips Steve mentions, his section on third-party products and advanced searches was quite helpful to me. A quick read, it takes the mystery out of Twitter and should motivate you to join in.

Twitter Marketing by Steve Weber is an excellent guide for both the new Twitter user and the experienced Twitter addict who is interested in exploring the marketing, promotion and advertising capabilities of the 140 character marvel.
Weber begins by answering the universal question asked by people new to Tweeting, “What good is Twitter?” and points out the benefits to both your personal life (after all, Twitter IS a social media tool) and to your business life, especially if you’re in business for yourself. Weber shares a few success stories of businesses that have successfully used Twitter to increase their sales, client base and business presence, just to whet your appetite for what Twitter can help you accomplish.
Before getting into the basics of Twitter, Weber advises those new to the application to stop and think about “why” they want to use this application, pointing out that this simple few moments of reflection will help the user to get off to a good start in using Twitter to his or her best advantage.
After covering the basics of what Twitter does, how to set up an account, how to get the most out of your profile, how to search for people to follow and how to begin sending out Tweets, Weber explains how to personalize your Twitter home page and make it another marketing tool, and how to use several third-party applications to enhance your Twitter experience.
The meat of this book is the marketing aspect and how to build your following. There are certain steps that should be followed and they are all laid out here for the reader’s benefit. Weber gives both some common-sense suggestions and some specific guidelines that may not occur to everyone, especially new users who are unfamiliar with what Twitter or some third-party applications can do to enhance marketing efforts.
